Prince Harry returned to the UK this July, and his plans for the trip faced their fair share of problems before the Duke had even landed. The visit marked the one-year countdown to the Invictus Games, which will be held in Birmingham in 2027.
Harry faced issues with his security for the trip, and at times, it was uncertain whether the Duke would bring Meghan Markle and his two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. An insider told PEOPLE: “This is not the first time it has not been plain sailing with correspondence or trying to make things work,” says a well-placed source. “It all comes back to security. If that was resolved, there would be so much more certainty every time he comes—or they come.”

Prince Harry’s trip lasted five days. While he was here, he carried out various engagements linked to his charities, the Invictus Games, WellChild and Scotty’s Little Soldiers.
Harry appeared at the events solo, without his wife, Meghan Markle. Prior to the trip, various statements were released both from Harry’s team and the Palace regarding his accommodation and security arrangements.
Prince Harry also met with his father, King Charles, on the trip.
For this private engagement, Harry was joined by his wife and their two children. It was the first time the King had seen his grandchildren in four years.

Harry had planned to bring his family on the trip, but it was announced that they would not be travelling with him due to security concerns.
Meghan Markle had planned to travel to Birmingham with Harry, but opted out of this in the end.
Prince Harry lost his final legal appeal against the UK government’s decision to reduce his official security during his visits to the UK.
The loss marked another setback for the duke in a long-running battle for safety.
