The Duke of Sussex has made his first public appearance in the UK, just hours after he flew solo to begin his visit to his home country. Prince Harry attended the premiere of Shoot The People at Picturehouse Central in the capital’s Picadilly Circus on Monday.

Harry appeared relaxed as he posed next to his long-time friend, photographer Misan Harriman. The duke was dressed casually, sporting a black shirt, black jeans and his grey slip-on trainers. The film focuses on Mr Harriman and claims it’s about a “traveller documenting global activists fighting for equality, LGBTQ+ rights, and more.”

It promises to offer “insights into their challenges and strategies for change through interviews and frontline photography.”

Mr Harriman has been a longtime friend of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and has photographed them on various occasions since their bombshell exit from the Firm in 2020, including for their announcement of Meghan’s pregnancy to Princess Lilibet.

Monday’s event marks Harry’s first public appearance in the UK, following his arrival earlier in the day.

The Duke of Sussex returned to his home country solo on Monday, where he is expected to attend a series of engagements linked to his charities and mark the one-year countdown for the Invictus Games in Birmingham.

Harry’s return came amid drama between the Sussex camp and Buckingham Palace over his accommodation plans in the UK.

Harry made a U-turn and requested to stay for just one night at Buckingham Palace, only to be told he had accepted the King’s offer too late.

He was also told his presence could compromise his father’s constitutional position, with judgment due in the duke’s High Court case against Associated Newspapers today.

The Duke’s spokesman said it was “disappointing” that the offer from the King had been “withdrawn at the last moment”, with the legal fight given as the reason.

Questions have been raised on the Sussex side as to whether the offer of a bed at a royal residence was ever intended to be available once Harry had accepted it.

But it is understood that royal accommodation will be made available to Harry and his family for future visits.
