The royals have been dealt a major blow after a new poll found that the majority of Brits side with Prince Harry over his accommodation arrangements for his visit to the UK. Prince Harry arrived in the UK on Monday, after the accommodation plans for his trip descended into chaos. Harry made a U-turn and requested to stay for just one night at Buckingham Palace, only to be told he had accepted the King’s offer too late.

He was also told his presence could compromise his father’s constitutional position, with judgment due in the duke’s High Court case against Associated Newspapers on Tuesday. Now, a new poll asked Brits to decide whether the duke should have stayed at Buckingham Palace or not, and the verdict was very telling. YouGov asked 6,323 British adults on Monday, June 6, about the duke’s living arrangements for his latest trip to Britain.

Out of those polled, nearly half (48%) said they think Harry should be allowed to stay at Buckingham Palace during his visit to the UK.

Just three out of ten (27%) said that he should not, and 25% said they don’t know.

According to the poll, older Britons are slightly more likely to say he should not be allowed to stay at Buckingham Palace, although more of them still think he should.

The duke’s spokesman said it was “disappointing” that the offer from the King had been “withdrawn at the last moment”, with the legal fight given as the reason.

Questions have been raised on the Sussex side as to whether the offer of a bed at a royal residence was ever intended to be available once Harry had accepted it.

But it is understood that royal accommodation will be made available to Harry and his family for future visits.

The duke is believed to have arrived in London alone, without the Duchess of Sussex and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, after they pulled out of a visit to the capital due to security concerns.
