The King’s Birthday Honours will be announced tonight, and Reform leader Nigel Farage is pipped as a potential candidate. While dozens of lesser-known MPs have been awarded knighthoods, The Express learned Mr Farage was consistently snubbed, after a source said he had been recommended for a knighthood “at least five times” but was blocked by the “establishment” in 2023.

It is understood Boris Johnson put Farage forward for a knighthood while he was Prime Minister for his services to Brexit, but it was blocked by the committee. This year, William Hill has placed odds of Nigel Farage’s chances of being knighted at 100/1.

The betting site said: “Following the footballing trend, ex-player Gary Lineker is 25/1 to be knighted, followed by England Men’s captain Harry Kane (33/1) and Joe Root (33/1).

“Dan Cole is an outsider to receive a knighthood at 50/1, while Nigel Farage, Liam and Noel Gallagher round off the betting as long shots at 100/1.”

David Beckham, 50, is also a contender, having been pipped to take the title of Sir.

Controversial recent appointments include the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, who was knighted on Tuesday, June 10, following his mention in the New Year’s Honours List.

It was heavily criticised by senior Conservative politicians, citing the cost of housing and transport and crime rates, which they said had risen under his Mayoral candidacy.
