Counter-terror police in charge of Ann Widdecombe’s murder investigation have relaunched a probe into an attempted firebombing at a home linked to Nigel Farage, it is reported. Officers have reopened an inquiry into a report of an attempted burglary at a London address in April last year. The property is understood to be used by Reform UK leader Nigel Farage, reports the BBC.

At the time, Mr Farage described a “lit incendiary device” being pushed through his letterbox in April 2025. Police said that “damage was caused to a door but nothing was stolen” at the time.

On Friday, Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP) said they had identified a line of inquiry not pursued that “may have been relevant”. Widdecombe, ​78, a ​prominent figure ⁠in Farage’s Reform UK party, was found dead at her home on July ​9. Joshua Kerry, from Rotherham in South Yorkshire, was later charged with her murder.

Vicki Evans, senior national coordinator for CTP, said: “Following the re-opening of the attempted burglary investigation, Counter Terrorism Policing London identified a line ​of enquiry which was not identified and pursued ​by them at the time, which may have been relevant.”

⁠The police did not provide further details on how Widdecombe’s death and the attempted burglary may have been connected.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said it had “decided to independently investigate the conduct of a Counter Terrorism Policing London staff member following a referral received earlier [on Friday]”.

A statement continued: “The conduct relates to an allegation the individual failed to identify and pursue a line of enquiry relating to an attempted burglary reported in April 2025.”

CTP London said it would “full engage” with the watchdog’s investigation, adding: “The victims and families in both investigations have been updated today, and we continue to support them.”
