Prince Harry just completely embarrassed himself – thank God he’s nowhere near the throne

Roll up, roll up for the latest round up of happenings in the lives of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. A lot of us enjoy posting some of our recent photos on Instagram, but most of us accept that many, many people will not care a jot about what we’ve been doing. It’s mainly for your own self-satisfaction, persuading yourself that you are living an exciting existence. But Meghan seems to think that the world cannot get by and will not turn without us knowing what she, her husband and children have been up to. One picture among the bunch posted several days ago got on my nerves.

It features Harry playing with Archie in the garden on a sunny day with a large football. Looks quite fun. But the idyllic scene is spoilt by what the prince is wearing: a T-shirt with “GIRL DAD” written on it. Aside from suggesting, whether true or not, to the boy in front of him that his sister, Lilibet, might just be his father’s favourite child, the choice of clothing is unnecessary and unalloyed virtue signalling.

I don’t know if Harry was wearing it because he knew his wife was taking photos that would end up on social media, or he just happened to be wearing it during a day at home. It’s hard to work out which would be worse.

Of course a father is proud to have a daughter.

We are not all Henry VIII, or noblemen from previous centuries, hoping to have a male descendant to whom the estate can be passed after our deaths.

By wearing that shirt, Harry is telling the world: “It’s alright, guys. I really like girls and women.”

Great, thanks.

Neither I nor anyone else was thinking that you hated them.

I’m very glad we won’t see this kind of surplus to requirements, preachy assurance that one is most definitely not a misogynistic moron anywhere near the throne.

This sort of cringeworthy stuff belongs in California, not Buckingham Palace.

The vast majority of Brits are able to be brilliant father figures to their daughters, providing them with a beneficial male presence in their lives, without bragging about it.

Harry, I’m sure, is very proud to be father to Lilibet, who recently turned five.

And I’m sure she is glad to have him as a dad.

This is lovely. But the world doesn’t need to see the prince wear such a tactless piece of clothing. I’m embarrassed for him.
