Strictly star Amy Dowden reveals health ‘scare’ after doctors discover ‘specks’ on her other breast
She said doctors have had to perform a number of biopsies on her other breast
Amy Dowden has revealed that she’s undergone further biopsies after doctors found “specks” on her breast.
Strictly star Amy was diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2023. In July 2023, after undergoing a single mastectomy, she was told that doctors had found additional tumours and a second type of cancer.
However, after undergoing further treatment, including chemotherapy, Amy was told in February 2024 that there was no evidence of disease in her body. Now, speaking to Dr Hilary Jones, she’s revealed that she’s had to undergo biopsies in her other breast.

Amy Dowden reveals biopsies after doctors find ‘specks’ on her breast
Speaking on The Dr Hilary Show podcast this month, Amy gave a cancer update.
“You’re in remission,” the TV doctor stated. “Yes,” she said, touching the wood panelling on the walls of the studio. “No evidence of disease now.”
However, she then shared some more worrying news. “I’ve had some scares with specks on the breast, on my other breast, which has not been pleasant. I’ve had more biopsies done on that breast,” she shared.
So obviously big decisions will need to be made in the future.
“Any genetic testing?” Dr Hilary asked. “I don’t carry the BRCA gene but there is breast cancer in the family, my mother and generations in my family,” Amy shared, before admitting: “So obviously big decisions will need to be made in the future.”
Dr Hilary then said that he was certain that Amy’s team of NHS oncologists were very much on top of any future testing that she may need. “I’m in very, very good hands,” she confirmed.

‘Can I have both off?’
In a previous chat on the Breast Cancer Uncovered podcast, Amy revealed that, when she was given the news she had breast cancer and needed a mastectomy, she asked if she could “have both off”. She explained that she didn’t want to “get back on” with her life, only for the cancer to come back “in the other breast”.
“When I was told I needed a mastectomy, I straight away said: ‘Can I have both off?’ Because what I didn’t want was to get back on with my life and for [the cancer] to come back in the other breast. I didn’t want to come back and deal with it,” she said. “I wanted to get on with my life,” Amy then added.
Amy’s Strictly comeback
Amy returned to Strictly Come Dancing this year, having left last year’s series early due to injury.
This time around, however, she was part of the first couple to be eliminated. Amy was paired with The Apprentice star Thomas Skinner. And they exited the competition after the first dance-off, in week two.
