Morrisons has announced a major new addition to its UK stores.

As part of a national partnership with SpotlessWater, 24/7 self-service pure water stations will be installed across the supermarket’s car parks.

The rollout began this autumn, with the first sites opening in Shrewsbury, Lichfield and Woking in October. A further nine stores, including Cardiff, Whitley Bay and Stratford, will follow by early 2026, with more locations to be confirmed in due course.

The move forms part of Morrisons’ wider strategy to expand the range of services available within its supermarkets and forecourts, offering new facilities that appeal not just to shoppers but also to local businesses.

SpotlessWater supplies ultra-pure water commonly used by window cleaners, vehicle detailers and solar panel technicians, where streak-free, residue-free finishes are essential.

The company currently operates more than 150 refill stations nationwide and has dispensed over 600 million litres since launching in 2016.

Its high-tech systems are designed with sustainability in mind, the technology minimises water waste and eliminates the need for disposable resins or harsh cleaning agents. Each station is monitored remotely via more than 45 sensors that track water quality, flow, and pressure in real time.

SpotlessWater CEO Tim Morris said the collaboration will make professional-grade water more accessible than ever.

He said: “This partnership will give customers access to more convenient, secure and well-located stations while providing Morrisons with a complementary new revenue stream.”

Morrisons’ services procurement manager, Jason Mallinson, added that the move reflects the retailer’s continued push towards innovation and sustainability.

He added: “This partnership offers a new and sustainable service that supports local professionals while giving customers even more reasons to visit our stores.”

The initiative underscores Morrisons’ growing focus on diversifying its in-store and forecourt offerings, from electric vehicle charging points and parcel lockers to now providing services tailored to trade professionals.

With the first water stations set to open in October, Morrisons customers can soon expect a cleaner, greener and more convenient addition to their local supermarket experience.
