German drug dealer claims UK must not deport him because he can’t speak German

A German drug dealer has avoided being deported to his home nation because he doesn’t speak the language well enough. Saleh Hussein Hamid lawyers argued against deportation based on human rights laws, according to reports.

The 25-year-old migrant had been convicted on eight counts of supplying Class A and Class B drugs across West Yorkshire. Hamid was also convicted of one count of dangerous driving. He was sentenced to 33 months in prison in September 2022.

The Home Office seeked to deport Hamid who argued he would face “very significant obstacles” integrating into German society, The Sun reports.

Hamid is a German citizen who arrived in the UK as a young boy.

In an appeal against the Home Office decision, his lawyers reportedly referenced this and how he was unable to speak German.

The lawyers also claimed Hamid would be targeted by far-right German groups, saying Germany is less tolerant of his Muslim faith, according to The Sun.

A new ruling over Hamid’s future is expected to take place next year.

The original judicial ruling that Hamid could stay in the UK has now been overturned.

Reform UK’s Police and Crime adviser, former detective Colin Sutton, has put pressure on the Government to deport all foreign prisoners.

Speaking to GB News, Mr Sutton said: “I think most people would say: just get them out. Deport them as soon as they’re convicted.

“As long as they’re away from us, then they become the problem of their home country, which is probably how it should be.”
